Performance Figures For Chevrolet Camaro Revealed

The sixth generation Chevrolet Camaro is more powerful and lighter than the earlier version. The 2016 model comes with smaller platform and four cylinders. This will be the first model with four cylinders in many years.

The performance figures for the new Camaro have been disclosed by Chevrolet and are very impressive. When compared to the main competitor Ford Mustang GT the performance figures are better for 2016 Camaro.

The 6.2 liter, V8 model is equipped with 455 horsepower engine coupled with eight –speed automatic transmission and is able to achieve zero to 60 mph within 4.0 seconds. It can complete the quarter mile within 12.3 seconds at the speed of 116mph. The lateral grip achievable is 0.97g.

The SS models come with six-speed manual transmission and are capable of doing zero to 60 mph in 4.3 seconds and covers a quarter mile in 12.5 second at 115 mph.

The Camaro is also available with two different engines, a four-cylinder 275 hp turbo charged and 335 hp V6 engine. The turbocharged engine can complete the quarter mile in 14 seconds at 102 mph and V6 model covers the quarter mile within 13.5 seconds at 103 mph.

According to the information released by Chevrolet, the 2.0 liter turbo charged engine with four-cylinders will achieve zero to 60 mph in 5.4seconds with manual transmission and will take 5.5 seconds with an automatic transmission.

This shows that among the 2016 Camaro models, the four-cylinder with manual transmission is quicker than the automatic versions. Chevy wants to position its turbocharged four-cylinders as the basic model, unlike their competitor model Ford’s Mustang.

Chevy has not made many changes to the look of the new Camaro. This new model is shorter by two inches from the earlier model, but is an inch wider.

The new generation changes are more prominent in the interior of the vehicle. The center console gauges are removed to give space to the air conditioning vents with HVAC controls. This makes the dashboard of the new Camaro look clean. The only feature visible on the dashboard will be the eight inch infotainment screen.

The interior of the vehicle has been made more drivers friendly and ergonomic.

The boost in performance of the new model is mainly due to the lighter platform of the Camaro. The weight of the new model is 368 pounds less than the earlier model. According to Chevy the sixth generation Camaro is 223 pounds lighter than its predecessor. There is about 14 % enhancement in the power-to weight ratio.
