Next Generation Volvo S60 To Be Built In U.S.

Volvo Cars, the very popular Swedish luxury brand, will be coming out with a next generation S60 car. They have plans to build the next-Gen S60 compact sedan in Ridgeville, S.C. The company is currently working on its new plant in S.C., and this will become operational in 2018. The next generation S60 would be the car that would be built first from this new plant in the United States.

This is the first plant that Volvo will be having in the U.S. and it is expected to churn out 50,000 to 60,000 cars in a year to begin with. Once the new plant facility in S.C., begins full production, then it will be able to produce as many as 100,000 cars annually. This news was let out by the Volvo cars North America CEO, Lex Kerssemakers.

Kerssemakers is happy that the Volvo U.S. plant will be first producing the S60 compact sedan car. This is a very good model to start production of a new plant and the car is also a great hit in the United States. The fist Volvo S60 built in the South Carolina plant of Volvo will be rolling out of the factory in late 2018.

The South Carolina plant of Volvo is a $500 million plant and this shows that Volvo is very serious about its operations in the U.S. It augurs well for the future of the company and this is a trigger point for the Volvo auto giants to rethink, reinvest and to expand their network and their dealerships in the country.

Kerssemakers said that the consumers have also noticed the interest that Volvo has in the U.S. and they are also happy to see the new cars from Volvo coming to their soil. Volvo has said that the new factory that is coming up in South Carolina State in the United States will be the production hub for the S60 sedan car. The S60 made here will be shipped from the Port of Charleston globally.

Kerssemakers said that both Mercedes Benz and BMW have had good experiences with their South Carolina plant and Volvo hopes to do better than them here The plant will be producing the Volvo based on the new Scalable Product Architecture.

This new Volvo plant will give employment to 2,000 people over the next decade and might even reach 4,000 people in the long term. The factory will commence hiring of the employees in 2017.
