Born in the Midwest, I was transported to Atlanta, GA at the ripe age of 9…a little too old to have a real southern drawl, but young enough to consider this my home. When people ask where I am from, I say Atlanta (though I do tend to get a lot of weird looks with my half Midwest/ half southern drawl response).
As a kid, I sat beside my baby brother monitoring concussions after rough falls during hockey games. In the early years here in GA, my dad partnered up with an ex-Flames player to keep the hockey fire burning strong. Soon enough the Thrashers were here and we were hooked. By 2000, I had found the love of my life and guess what, the boy was a die hard Lightning fan.
I am a typical sports chic, love football, love baseball and LOVE me some hockey. As excited as I get for the Baseball playoffs, I get even more excited because that means it is hockey season. Most importantly (and any true Atlanta sports fan will understand) I root, root, root for the home team. And, in this city, it is easy to be disappointed.
During the Stanley Cup finals in 2010, I cheered for the best team to win. I will be very honest, as the Thrashers fan I have been, seeing Marian Hossa out there really made me want the Flyers to win it…but, in the end, I came to the realization that the poor boy had suffered enough…went to the finals with Pittsburgh, lost to Detroit. Went to Detroit, lost to Pittsburgh…but in Chicago, he really played it to win it…and when they won it, I was happy for him.
I think that the moment Dustin Byfuglien was sent to Atlanta actually TOPS the moment Greg Maddux (my ALL TIME favorite pitcher) was traded to Atlanta after winning the Cy Young for the Chicago Cubs. And, boy, he has not let me down…
I love hockey. I love that my soul-mate loves hockey. I love that my children love hockey. That I can say my husband was a Zamboni driver. I love that I have the opportunity to write about it. And if you take a moment to read it, I thank you.

My name is T.J. Cray and a rather “newcomer” to the Thrashers fan base. To be honest, I wasn’t much of a fan of hockey until about a year and a half ago. I’m originally from Missouri and would watch the Blues on TV every now and then, but never went to a game. My family came to Georgia in 1998 (but still didn’t enjoy the game). In November of 2009 I made my first game to watch the Blues take on the Thrashers. From that point on, there was no doubt in my mind that this was the game that I love and have followed closely ever since. Though, my family would like to disown me for turning my back on the Blues, the Thrashers are what brought me to the game. So, from here on out, I’m the guy in the stands wearing that baby blue jersey in the stands with “CRAYZ” on the back.
