World Leaders Expected At Buhari’s Inauguration

OVER 50 Presidents and Heads of Government are being expected in Nigeria to attend the Presidential inauguration on May 29, even as the Inauguration Committee says it has expended below N2 billion for the planning and execution of the epoch-making event.

He outlined the activities programmed for the inauguration to be such as: “Juma’at service which held yesterday at the National Mosque, Abuja“.

Duke added that invitations for the inauguration of President-elect Muhammadu Buhari are already being extended and “as we speak, the 54 countries of the continent of Africa have been invited”.

This revelation was made by the Chairman, Media and Publicity sub-committee of the 2015 Joint Transition Committee and Minister of Culture, Tourism and National Orientation, Chief Edem Duke while briefing newsmen of the level of preparedness of the committee ahead of the inauguration in Abuja.

“We are expecting at least 50 heads of state from around the world for the inauguration”, he revealed. There has been a huge interest, especially from heads of countries in Europe to attend this inauguration.

The minister said there will be road blocks so the convoy carrying the outgoing and incoming presidents to and fro the Eagle Square, the venue of the inauguration will not have to face traffic.

He also stated that television screens would be placed in strategic places in the Federal Capital Territory for uninvited people to watch the inauguration.

He also denied a media report claiming that the inauguration would gulp N3bn.

According to a statement issued by the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, the processes leading to the transfer of power would end with an inauguration gala night on May 29, 2015.

The Director-General of the agency, Dr. Mike Omeri, told Saturday PUNCH in a telephone interview on Friday that the figure could still go up as the process was ongoing. When asked to disclose the exact amount, the minister declined.
